Indigenous Knowledge Protocols for non-Indigenous folks: A 101 Guide

Cover of Indigenous Knowledge Protocol Bundle

FACET is pleased to share a new external resource, Indigenous Knowledge Protocols for non-Indigenous folks – a 101 guide, now available for download.

The protocols have been developed through research by the Indigenous Knowledge Systems Lab at Deakin University, together with their Anishnaabe Indigenous Knowledge sister lab in Canada, with the support of AIME and the Indigenous Systems Knowledge Collective. The guide is intended for non Indigenous individuals and organisations who are invited to work with Indigenous Knowledge and cultural practice, and who wish to do so in ways that are safe, respectful and grounded in integrity. As the authors describe it, this is “a 101 translation for people and groups who want to utilise IK in their projects and organisations, safely and with integrity.”

The full document is shared free of charge by the authors, who also welcome offers of support to continue their work in this field. FACET’s role here is simply to connect our members and network with this work. All intellectual and cultural authority rests with the Indigenous scholars, communities and organisations who have created and shared it.

We encourage non-Indigenous members and partners who are invited into Indigenous-led projects, ritual spaces or cultural activities to engage directly with the original document and, where appropriate, seek guidance from Indigenous partners and knowledge holders.
