FACET hosted an interactive workshop with Prue Pike from Talk Social Media who provided important protocols, quick tips as well as best practice examples to help make Instagram work for your business and/or destination.
Workshop delegates represented state and local governments, tour operators, tourism organisations and businesses.
With Instagram being all about visual sharing, the tourism and hospitality sector and destinations are well suited to this social media platform. Prue noted the first step was to understand your business profile and be clear on your customers and target market to ensure your social media strategy is on track.
Prue explained the value of research #hashtags to achieve optimum exposure and the importance of tagging images. A number of successful Instagram accounts were used as case-studies to demonstrate posting techniques, for example using colour or seasonal themes and breaking up posted images with words.
Prue provided practical insights into the use of Instagram as an extension of a business and destination’s brand and an important tool to encourage shared images to market destinations.
